Natural Color Enhancers
  • Tea: To set the henna color, steep a full-bodied tea for half an hour. Instead of water, use the tea liquid to make the paste. Black China or Ceylon tea adds golden highlights to brown hair.
  • Coffee: To tone down the red hair and deepen the browns, use brewed-not instant-coffee instead of the water in the paste. Brew at least 1 cup , bring to a boil, and then let the coffee sit overnight before adding to the henna mixture.
  • Cloves: Cloves deepen and enhance the henna color. Grind ½ tablespoon dry whole cloves to powder and add to the henna paste.
  • Apple cider vinegar or lemon juice: Add 3 tablespoons vinegar or fresh lemon juice for golden or copper highlights. This is also good for oily hair.
  • Honey: Add two table spoons of honey in your henna powder. Add lemon juice and cover the bowl. Keep overnight. Check if the after a couple of hours the upper layer of the henna paste has become brown. If it is so then it is ready for use. Mix some essential oils like lavendar oil, clove oil, tea tree oil to smooth the paste. This helps to dye your hair.
