Quick Home Remedies for Back Pain

Almost everyone suffers from back pain. Unless you have a major injury or disc problem, your doctor may not be of much help to you other than prescribe some pain medication and advise you to rest. However some simple home remedies can be very effective in relieving you of backaches. Even better, you can help ensure that you won't have to endure similar discomfort in the future.


  • Include garlic in your daily diet. Eat two to three cloves of garlic in a day. It is an effective home remedy.
  • Boil ten tulsi leaves in one cup of water until the syrup is reduced to half a cup. Add salt to it after cooling. Take this mixture daily. For severe backache, take it twice a day.
  • You could take a mixture of five black pepper corns, five cloves and one-gram dry ginger powder in your tea at least twice a day.
  • Take half a gram of dalchini powder with one-teaspoon honey at least twice a day for best results.
  • Include in diet tomato, carrot, cabbage, cucumber, lettuce, and at least two lightly cooked vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, carrot.
  • Include foods that have rich Vitamin C content, such as citrus fruit, tomatoes, blueberries and strawberries, in your diet.
  • Mix 1 tbsp glucose or honey in warm water and have it in the morning, on an empty stomach. It is a simple, yet effective way to get relief from backpain.
  • Take out the juice of one lemon and add some common salt to it. Intake this, twice a day.

Massage Oils
  • Garlic oil can also be effective in curing backache. To prepare garlic oil, fry ten cloves of garlic in 60 ml of oil (mustard oil, sesame oil or coconut oil). Strain the oil, let it cool down a bit and massage the back with it.
  • A self massage with eucalyptus oil is known to be beneficial.
  • Warm mustard oil can also be used.
  • Mint oil has been found effective in curing backache. Lightly massage your back using some mint oil. It will give relief from the pain.
  • You can also massage with turpentine oil.

Important Tips for Regular Care
  • If you have a chronic back problem, keep yourself warm and eat hot items.
  • Apply some heat to the back, using hot water bottle or hot water bag. This would give instant relief from the pain.
  • While sleeping, sleep on a firm mattress.
  • Avoid sleeping face down.
  • Every time you lift something, remember to bend your knees first, this will prevent your lower back from getting tense causing damage to your spine and back muscles.
  • Never twist while lifting.
  • Avoid lifting heavy objects in the last couple of weeks of your pregnancy.
  • Do not sit in firm chairs supporting the lumbar area with a pillow. This will help you keep your waist and lower back in the proper position.
